What is KEAM?

Kerala Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Entrance Exam (KEAM) is a state-level exam conducted by CEE. The exam is held annually to offer admission to interested candidates in BTech courses at various government and private colleges in Kerala. Candidates seeking admission to engineering degree courses in the state need to appear for KEAM 2020.

CEE Kerala has announced KEAM 2020 exam dates. The exam will be held on April 20 and April 21, 2020 in offline mode. All other important dates of KEAM 2020 will be released along with the information brochure.

KEAM 2020 Eligibility

The eligibility criteria of KEAM 2020 will be released by CEE Kerala. The authority has set various parameters for candidates applying for the state level common entrance test. The eligibility criteria of KEAM  2020. Failing to comply with the same, candidates will not be allowed to appear for KEAM 2020 exam. The eligibility criteria for KEAM 2020 will be based on the following parameters namely age, KEAM streamwise eligibility, and nationality & KEAM native criteria. The minimum eligibility criteria to appear for KEAM states that a candidate needs to possess a valid pass certificate in class XII examination. However, OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) and PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) candidates will also be considered Indian citizens and can apply.

KEAM Eligibility: Age requirement

Only those candidates are eligible to appear for this entrance exam who have completed 17 years of age as on the 31st December 2020. Candidates shall not be awarded any relaxation in the minimum age requirement. There is no upper age limit for KEAM 2020.

Out of the total seats available for admissions in various courses through this entrance exam, some seats will be reserved for different categories. 

KEAM Eligibility: Education qualification

The educational qualification for KEAM 2020 will be different for various engineering programs offered. However, the minimum eligibility criteria for states that a candidate should have passed class XII with science subjects.

Qualification for engineering courses

Candidates are eligible to apply for programmes like BTech (Ag Engg) and BTech (Food Engg) and BTech (Dairy Science & Technology) if they fulfil the below-mentioned criteria:

  • Must have cleared the HSC exam of Kerala or equivalent from a recognised board.
  • Must have secured a minimum 50% marks in Mathematics as well as 50 % marks in aggregate in Physics and Chemistry

However, candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 45% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission under Management Quota in Private Self Financing Engineering Colleges/Government Controlled Self Financing Engineering Colleges.

  • In case, a candidate has not studied Chemistry, the marks obtained in Computer Science shall be considered.
  • In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry and Computer Science, the marks obtained in Biotechnology shall be considered.
  • In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry, Computer Science and Biotechnology, the marks obtained in Biology shall be considered.

The marks as shown in the mark list of the Board of Examination obtained from the respective Higher Secondary Board shall be considered for academic eligibility.

Qualification for BTech (DSc & Tech)

Candidates are eligible to apply under this category if they have:

  • Passed HSC exam of Kerala or its equivalent with 50 % marks in Mathematics or Biology 
  • Secured an aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology 

Such candidates will need to pursue a make-up course in Basic Mathematics (2+0) credits or Applied Biology (1+1) credit as the case may be.

Relaxation in marks

  • Candidates belonging to socially and economically backward classes have a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • They only need 45% marks in Mathematics/ Biology and 45% marks in Mathematics/ Biology, Physics and Chemistry put together.

KEAM Nativity

Only India citizens are eligible to apply for KEAM. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card Holders shall be treated at par with Indian citizens for the purpose of admission. However, PIO/OCI candidates will not be eligible for any kind of reservation.

Indian citizens will further be classified as Keralites and Non-Keralites on the following basis:

Nativity for Keralite

KEAM 2020 eligibility criteria state that candidates who are of Kerala origin shall be categorised as a Keralite for the purpose of admission. Here, candidates whose parents are All India Service (AIS) officers (Non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala cadre also fall in this category. However, such candidates should produce a certificate from the competent authority showing that their parent/parents are AIS officer allotted to Kerala cadre. But they will not be eligible for Communal/Special/Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession. 

Nativity for Non-Keralite Category I (NK I)

A candidate who is not from Kerala origin but fulfils any one of the below-mentioned eligibility criteria will be categorised as ‘Non-Keralite Category I’:

  • Has been a resident of Kerala State for a period of five years within the period of 12 years of study and is a non-Keralite.
  • Studied in Kerala from Class VIII to XII and is not of Kerala Origin
  • Studied 10+2 in Kerala and whose parents are Non- Keralites belonging to the Government of India/Defence Service, posted to Kerala.
  • Has studied 10+2 in Kerala and whose parents are Non- Keralites serving/served Government of Kerala for a minimum period of two years including the period of study of the qualifying exam)

Nativity for Non-Keralite Category-II (NK II)

KEAM eligibility criteria further state that candidates who are not from the ‘Keralite’ or ‘Non- Keralite Category-I’ shall be considered as ‘Non-Keralite Category-II’.

Candidates falling under NK II category can only apply to the ‘State Merit’ seats which are on offer at the Private Self-financing Engineering Colleges in Kerala or the “Management Quota” seats available in Self-financing Engineering institutions under Government control.

Documents to prove nativity for KEAM 2020

Candidates will be required to produce valid documents in order to prove their nativity as a Kerala resident. The documents have to be submitted at the time of the KEAM counselling process.

Find the below list of documents required to prove nativity for KEAM 2020: 


Candidates will have to submit the following documents in order to prove that they are a native of Kerala.

  • A copy of SSLC certificate
  • A copy of SSLC certificate of either of the parents
  • A copy of the Passport of the candidate or either of his/her parents
  • Birth Certificate of the candidate
  • Certificate from Village Officer/Tehsildar
  • Certificate from competent authority showing either of the parents is an All India Service Officer

Non-Keralite Category I (NK I)

Candidates will have to submit the following documents in order to prove that they belong to Non-Keralite Category I (NK I).

  • Certificate from the Head of Organisation where the parents of the candidate is/are working, and a Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the candidate is studying.
  • Certificate from the Village Officer showing that the candidate is a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years.
  • Certificate from the Head of the Institution showing that the candidate has undergone schooling from VIII to XII.

Non-Keralite Category II (NK II)

Candidates will have to bring “Certificate of Completion of Qualifying examination “in order to prove that they belong to the following category and also a copy of Passport.

What are the changes in KEAM 2020?

KEAM was initially conducted for admission in Engineering, Architecture and Medical courses offered at colleges of Kerala. With NEET becoming the national level medical/dental entrance test, KEAM medical exam has been discontinued.

KEAM 2020 Exam Day Guidelines

Candidates appearing for KEAM 2020 are recommended to follow the below-mentioned exam day guidelines to avoid any last-minute hassle:

What to carry on Exam Day?

  • Admit card: It is a mandatory document that the candidates must carry to the exam centre on the day of the test. It may be noted that a candidate without a valid KEAM admit card will not be allowed to enter the exam hall.
  • Photo ID proof: Candidates must also carry an original photo ID proof for verification. An ID proof can be any document containing a candidate’s name and photo like PAN card, Aadhaar card, voter ID card, passport, etc.
  • Ballpoint pen and a cardboard/clipboard: Candidates are also allowed to carry ballpoint pens (either in black or blue ink) and a cardboard/clipboard to the examination hall.

What not to carry on Exam Day?

  • Candidates must not carry any textual material or things like calculator, electronics watch, slide rule, log table, mobile phone, and pager inside the exam hall.

Important FAQs regarding KEAM 2020

Q. What is the procedure for KEAM registration?

A. There are 6 steps to follow when applying for KEAM registration 2020. Candidate should complete all the steps for filling KEAM application form as on or before the last date specified.

Q. Is it compulsory to do all the steps mentioned while applying online for KEAM 2020?

A. Yes, candidates have to complete all the steps to complete KEAM application procedure. However, it is not compulsory to complete all the steps in one go. Candidates can do each step at a different time. But they should use the ‘Save’ button frequently to save the entered data.

Q. Which are the recommended browsers for applying online for KEAM?

A. The latest version of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome can be used while filling the KEAM 2020 application form.

Q. Which are the courses offered by CEE in KEAM?

A. CEE is conducting allotment to the following courses in KEAM:  Engineering, Architecture, MBBS, BDS, Ayurveda, Homoeo, Siddha, Unani, Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary, Fisheries and Pharmacy.

Q. Is CEE office conducting Medical Entrance Examination? 

A. There is no state level entrance examination for medical and architecture courses conducted by this office. The entrance examination is conducted only for Engineering and BPharm courses. Admission to medical courses will be conducted based on the NEET (UG) Rank. Those candidates who wish to be considered for the allotment in medical courses in Kerala State should be qualified in NEET. Likewise, if a candidate wants to be considered for allotment in Architecture course, the qualification in NATA (National Aptitude Test) is required. Candidates who desire to pursue Engineering, Pharmacy, Medical and Architecture admission should apply for KEAM.

Q. I want to study an Ayurveda course in Kerala. Do I need to appear for NEET examination?

A. In Kerala, admission to all medical courses including Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Agricultural, Fisheries, Unani, Veterinary, Sidha etc. will be based on the NEET ranks. So those candidates who wish to be considered for the allotment in medical courses should be qualified in NEET and are required to apply for KEAM.

Q. I belong to General category. Is it required to submit Income certificate?

A. It is better to submit income certificate by all candidates except SC/ST. Those (including General Category) who wish to avail the benefits such as fee concession/scholarships that may be notified by the Government or college authorities subsequently, based on annual family income, should furnish the Income Certificate along with the KEAM application form.

Q. What are the certificates that must be submitted to prove nativity?

A. Candidates can submit any one of the following documents/certificates for satisfying their nativity requirements:

  • Certificate to prove nativity for Keralites.
  • True copy of the relevant page of SSLC of the candidate showing their place of birth in Kerala (self-attested copy of this certificate has to be attached separately)

KEAM 2020 Admission Process

Candidates willing to apply for KEAM 2020 need to follow six steps in order to complete the KEAM admission process. The below steps will guide candidates right from the online registrations for KEAM till the final seat allotment process.

STEP 1: KEAM Registration 2020/ Filling the online application form

  • The very first step for candidates to appear for KEAM 2020 exam is to register online on the official website.
  • On successful registrations, candidates will be asked to fill KEAM application form in order to complete the registration process.

STEP 2: KEAM Admit card

  • CEE the conducting body of KEAM will be releasing the exam admit card.
  • KEAM admit card is a mandatory document which needs to be carried to KEAM test centre
  • Candidates who do not carry KEAM hall ticket issued by CEE will not be allowed to write the exam under any circumstances

STEP 3: Appear for KEAM 2020 exam

  • Students need to appear for KEAM 2020 as per the schedule mentioned in the exam hall ticket.
  • Aspirants are advised to reach the exam centre at least an hour before the commencement of the exam

STEP 4: KEAM Results

  • The results for KEAM will be declared by CEE in the fourth week of May. However, the actual KEAM result date will be out in due time.
  • Candidates will be able to check KEAM results on the official website of CEE after release.

 STEP 5: KEAM Counselling

After the announcement of KEAM results, candidates whose names appear in the merit list released by CEE will be allowed to participate in the exam counselling. KEAM counselling process will be organized to verify the documents produced by candidates. On successful verification of documents, candidates will then be allotted seat basis their preferences and the availability on the same.

KEAM 2020 Exam Centers

KEAM Centres 2020 – The exam conducting body, Commissioner of Entrance Examination will release the list of KEAM test centres where the exam will be conducted. Candidates who register for KEAM 2020 will be able to check the test centres allotted to them on the official website. Candidates will need their KEAM login details including their KEAM application number and displayed security code in order to check the exam test centres.

Students, while applying for KEAM 2020, will be given an option to select any of the KEAM centres from the given list. CEE will allow examination city to aspirants in order of the choice opted by them in their application form. However, due to administrative reasons, a different city or nearby area may be allotted.

Please note that the decision of CEE regarding allotment of KEAM test centres, date & shift will be final. No further correspondence or request will be entertained in such case.

KEAM 2020 is expected in the first week of May across 14 centres in Kerela, and in New Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai. Candidates who will opt for Dubai as KEAM exam centre have to remit an additional fee of INR 12,000 via DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, at Thiruvananthapuram along with the printed application form.
